Ware Co. Wrestling Results Fitzgerald Invitational 12/18/15 – 12/19/15

The Gator wrestlers attended the Fitzgerald Invitational hosted by Fitzgerald High School this past weekend bringing 13 varsity wrestlers and 5 JV wrestlers.  There were 14 teams who competed including Ware (tied for 7^th place with 46 points), Fitzgerald (6^th place with 50 points), Tifton (1^st place with 111 points), Monticello 9^th place with 43 points), Turner (tied for 7^th place with 46 points), Coffee (5^th place with 75.5 points), Valwood11th place with 14 points), Valdosta 2^nd place with 90 points), Cook (10^th place with 30 points), Colquitt (4^th place with 77 points), Westfield (tied for 12^th place with 0 points), Lee (3^rd place with 88 points), Crisp (8^th place with 43 points), and Berrien (tied for 12^th place with 0 points).  The gators had 4 placers in the varsity tournament; Brandon Foster (so.) at 113 lbs. placed 2^nd with a record of 5 – 1, Kaleb Aldridge (Jr.) placed 3^rd at 126 lbs. with a record of 4 – 3, Cole White (Jr.) placed 2^nd at 253 lbs. with a record of 5 – 1, and Britton Jones (Jr.) placed 4^th at 195 lbs. with a record of 4 – 3.  The Gators placed 4 of their 5 JV wrestlers in the JV tourney including Danny Aldridge (Fr.) at 106 placing 3^rd with a record of 2 – 1, Quay McKinney (Fr.0 at 152 placing 1^st with a record of 2 – 0, Trevor Ford (So.) at HW placing 2^nd with a record of 2 – 1, and Otis Robinson (Fr.) at HW with a record of 1 – 2 placing 4^th. 

The Gators next competition will be at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Valdosta High School on Tuesday and Wednesday Dec. 29^th and 30^th.

Effingham Co Rebel Invitational

The Gator wrestlers competed in the Rebel Invitational Friday and Saturday in Effingham Co. this past weekend finishing 5^th out of 17 teams and produced 4 individual champions, a 3^rd place finish, a 4^th place finish, and two 5^th place finishes out of the 13 weight classes that they brought to the tournament.  The Gators only had 11 of the 14 weight classes filled in their line-up and were able place 7 of their wrestlers in the top 5.  The Ware Co. The Gator Grapplers headed to Lowndes HS Tuesday night to wrestle Berrien Co. and Lowndes Co.  The Gators set off down 3 weight classes at 145 lbs., 152 lbs., and 182 lbs., but still managed to go 1 – 1 beating Berrien Co. 51 – 24 and losing a close dual to Lowndes 36 – 43.  The Gator wrestling dual record now stands at 16 – 4 for the season.  Ware Co. will be travelling to Effingham HS this weekend to wrestle in the Rebel Invitational.  This will be the first traditional tournament of the season which spans 2 days, Friday 12/11 and Saturday 12/8.  Wrestling will begin at 4:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am on Saturday.  Individual match results are listed below.

Jeff Davis Yellow Jacket Duals Dec 4-5, 2015

The Gators increased their Dual record to 15 – 3 after finishing 2^nd at the 9^th Annual Yellow Jacket Duals hosted by Jeff-David HS.  This event involves 9 duals over 2 days.  This year there were 20 teams participating: Treutlen, Ware, Toombs A, Toombs B, Dodge, Veterans, Fitzgerald, Brantley, Pierce, Telfair, Turner, Vidalia, Coffee, Houston, Crisp, Cook, Montgomery, Loganville, and Jeff-Davis.  There were 4 pools with 5 teams each.  Preliminary match ups included a pool round robin and 2 cross-over match ups.  The teams in the Gators pool were Treutlen, Toombs B, Dodge, and Veterans.  The gators matched up first with Treutlen Co. and defeated them 42 – 28.  In round 2 Ware bested Veterans 51 – 24.  The Gators suffered a loss in the lineup as Blaine Aldridge (so.) at the 145 lb. weight class injured his knee and was out for the rest of the tournament.  The round 3 match up was against Toombs B and the Gators won 64 – 6.  Round 4 was a cross-over match up vs. the returning AA State Duals finalists Toombs Co. A.  The gators suffered a defeat falling to the Bulldogs 54 – 20.  On Saturday Ware Co. finished pool play in round 5 vs. Dodge and defeated them 52 – 22.  Round 6 was the second cross-over dual and the Gators lined up against Brantley Co. Defeating the Herons 45 – 33.  The finals brackets were drawn up based on pool records.  The gators were 4 – 0 in their pool and were positioned in the championship bracket.  The championship bracket included the 1^st and 2^nd place teams in each of the 4 pools.  The gators were down two weight classes due to injury at 145 and disqualification at 152 and had to forfeit these weight classes for the rest of the tournament.  In round 7, the first championship bracket round, the Gators matched up against Vidalia and blasted the Indians 63 – 15.  Round 8 was the semi-finals matchup.  The Gators matched up against Jeff-Davis and zapped the Yellow Jackets 58 – 18.  In round 9, the championship finals round, the Gators once again matched up against the Toombs Co. A Bulldogs.  The Gators put up a great fight as they wrestled with everything they had but fell short of a victory losing 41 – 30.  

The Gators will be travelling to Lowndes Co. on Tuesday to wrestle the Vikings.

Ware Co. Wrestling Results

Buddy Duals hosted by Effingham Co.

11/21/15

The Gator wrestlers went 5 – 0 at the buddy duals this weekend winning the tournament and increasing their dual record to 8 – 1 after the second weekend of the 2015 – 2016 season.  The Buddy Duals is an annual dual tournament hosted by Effingham Co. to support the Low Country Down Syndrome organization.  There were 10 teams at the Buddy duals which included Ware Co, Effingham Co. A, Effingham Co. B, Islands, South Effingham, Richmond Hill, Brunswick, Savannah Arts Academy, Benedictine Academy, and Statesboro.  The Gators matched up against Brunswick in Round 1 and blasted them 76 – 3 losing only one match in overtime.  In round 2 the Gators wrestled Effingham Co. B team and beat them 78 – 3.  Round 3 paired the Gators with South Effingham and the Gators defeated the Mustangs 54 – 18.  Round 4 was and exciting match-up between the gators and the Wildcats of Richmond Hill.  The Gators stepped up and defeated the Wildcats 49 – 24 placing the Gators in the finals against Islands of Savannah.  The Gators ended the day with a solid victory vs. the Sharks defeating them 60 – 21.

The Gators next tournament will be Friday and Saturday Dec. 4 – 5 at Jeff Davis HS. 

Wrestling will begin on Friday at 4:00 pm and on Saturday at 9:00am.
