The Gator wrestling team has maintained it’s undefeated
record and increased their wins to 17 after winning the Yellow Jacket Duals
this past Friday and Saturday hosted by Jeff Davis HS. The Teams competing were Appling Co, Coffee
Co, East Laurens, Jeff Davis Co, Telfair Co, Treutlen Co, Ware Co, Brantley Co,
Dodge Co, Irwin Co, Montgomery Co, Toombs Co, and Vidalia HS. The Gators went 4 – 0 on Friday night beating
Vidalia 77 – 3, East Laurens 53 – 29, Appling 68 – 9, and Coffee 63 – 9. On Saturday the Ware Co wrestlers won their
pool by defeating Telfair 67 – 6, Toombs 54 – 15, and Irwin 68 – 6. This put the Gators at 7 – 0 in their
pool. There were 2 championship rounds
in which the winner of one pool wrestled the 2nd place of the
opposite pool. The winners of these two
dual meets wrestled each other for 1st and 2nd
place. In round 1 of the championship
rounds the Gators (1st place pool A) wrestled Toombs Co. who took 2nd
in their pool (pool B) to Treutlen Co.
The Gators beat Toombs again with a score of 54 – 21. Treutlen Co., the winners of pool B, wrestled
East Laurens (2nd place pool A) and lost, putting the Gators in the
championship finals against East Laurens.
Ware once again bested East Laurens with a score of 50 – 21 for a second
consecutive 1st place finish in the Yellow Jacket Duals. The gators outscored their opponents 554 –
119 scoring 50+ points on each opponent and giving up 29 points or less each
dual. Luke Littlrfield (106), Taylor
Bristow (132), Jeremy Barber (152), Shawn Tinnyhill (160), and David Shavers
(170) went undefeated for the weekend.
