The Gators have successfully defended their region title making it two in a
row by defeating South Effingham in the Area finals 48 - 20. The
Gators will be traveling to Macon next weekend to participate in the
State Dual tournament. Weigh-in will be Thursday evening and wrestling
will begin Friday morning.
The Gator wrestling team successfully defended its region title this
weekend in Brunswick as the grapplers won their second straight region
championship. The Gators were the #1
seed in the tournament followed by Effingham, South Effingham, Richmond
Hill and Brunswick. The unseeded teams in the region included Glynn
Academy, Greenbriar, Evans Co., Statesboro. The Gators first match
was against Statesboro in which the wrestlers put up a score of 79 – 0.
In the semifinals the Gators went against the wildcats of Richmond Hill
and bested them 50 – 15. In the Region final match the Gators went up
against South Effingham and beat them with a score of 48 – 20. Placing
3rd in the tournament was Effingham and 4th was Richmond Hill. The
wrestling team will be headed to the Macon Centriplex this Friday and
Saturday to compete in the State Dual tournament. Wrestling will begin
at 8:30am on Friday.
