The Ware Co Gator wrestlers traveled to Effingham Co. High
School this weekend for the Rebel Invitational. The Gators captured their 1st
traditional tournament win of the season as they went into the tournament
filling 13 of the 14 weight classes. There
were 29 teams competing in the tournament; these teams included Ware, Hilton
Head (A & B), Valdosta (A & B), Effingham (A & B), Perry (A &
B), Windsor Forest (A & B), South Effingham (A & B), Greenbriar (A
& B), Islands, Savannah Arts (A & B), Statesboro (A & B), Richmond
Hill (A & B), Jenkins (A & B), Savannah High, Groves, Johnson (A &
B).
The top ten teams were Tournament Champions Ware County with
240.50 points, 2nd place Hilton Head (239.50 points), 3rd
place Valdosta (230 points), 4th place Effingham (189 points), 5th
place Perry (177 points), 6th place Valdosta B (115.50 points), 7th
place Windsor Forest (98 points), 8th place South Effingham (94
points), 9th place Greenbriar (85 points), and 10th Islands (84.50
points).
Ware County had 11 wrestlers earning medals including three
tournament Champions; Brandon Foster 113 lbs, Cole White at 152 lbs and Britton
Jones 195 lbs. Other placers were as follows: 2nd place Nawin Hyers
at 182 lbs, Conner White (120) and Eli Hodge (170) placed third, 4th
place Austin Sweat at 138 lbs. Quay
McKinney 160 lbs and Reese Poole placed 5th at 126 lbs while Rick
Walker (145 lbs) and Otis Robinson (285 lbs) finished in 6th place.
Senior Cole White (152 lbs.) was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament as he pinned his way through the finals going 5 – 0 on the weekend.

Tuesday.
