Ware County Wrestling: Yellow Jacket Duals and Stinger Slam Hosted by Jeff-Davis High School 12/6/19

The Gator wrestling team competed in the 13^th annual Yellow Jacket duals hosted by Jeff-Davis high school on Friday and Saturday 12/6 and 12/7, placing 3^rd out of 28 teams participating in the tournament. The Gators went 8 – 1 in the tournament bringing their Dual record to 21 – 5 for the season. The Gators started Friday going 4 – 0 in their pool defeating Fitzgerald, MCA, Screven and Turner Co. On Saturday the gators finished pool play by defeating Loganville and Wayne Co. to sweep their pool with a record of 6 – 0. The Gators went into the championship bracket (Gold Pool) as a 1 seed and defeated Statesboro 54 – 24. This placed Ware Co. against Oglethorpe in the championship semi-finals, where the Gators fell 38 – 27. The Gators wrestled in the consolation finals against Coffee Co. defeating the Trojans 42 – 41 in a close dual which came down to the final bout. The final bout was at the 160 lb. weight class and Banner Thomas needed a pin to get a win for the Gators. The fall came with 34 seconds left in the match sealing a 3^rd place finish for the Gators.

The Gators had 10 wrestlers participate in the Stinger Slam, a round robin JV tournament. Wrestling for the Gators were Decotice Adkinson – 106 lbs. (fr) with a record of 2 – 2, Germaine Middleton – 106 lbs. (fr) with a record of 4 – 0, Landon Hendrix – 120 (fr) with a record of 4 – 0, Kendra Moore – 120 lbs. (fr) with a record of 0 – 4, Ashleigh Griffis – 120 (jr) with a record of 0 – 3, Perla Hernandez – 138 lbs. (so) with a record of 1 – 3, Joel Adkinson – 138 lbs. (so) with a record of 4 – 0, John Strickland – 182 lbs. (fr) with a record of 2 – 1, Zander Moye – 220 lbs. (fr) with a record of 3 – 0, and JoshDavid Vo – 220 lbs. (so) with a record of 1 – 2.
