GHSA Class 5A State Traditional Tournament


The Gator wrestling team sent 12 wrestlers to Macon for the GHSA Class 5A State Traditional tournament.  The Gators finished 7th overall placing 6 and having 3 losing in the blood round.  Placing for the Gators were Kooper Thomas (jr.) at 145 lbs. placing 4th  Reese Poole (sr.) at 126 lbs. placing 5th, and Ethan Frye (jr.) at 106 lbs., Cannon White (jr.) at 152 lbs., Conner White (jr.) at 160 lbs., and Jesus Hernandez (jr.) at 182 lbs. all placing 6th.  Finishing top 8 for the Gators were Nick Felton (sr.) at 170 lbs., Zay Taylor (sr.) at 220 lbs., and Israel Smalls (sr.) at 285 lbs.  Also qualifying for the Gators were Grayson Smith (so.) at 120 lbs., Dustin Varnadore (sr.) at 132 lbs., and Mosies Butler (sr.) at 138 lbs.  Tournament brackets can be viewed at www.trackwrestling.com  Complete individual results and team scores are listed below:

The Gator wrestling team competed at Loganville HS in the Class 5A Sectionals this weekend and qualified 12 of 14 weight classes for the GHSA Class 5A State Championship to be held at the Macon Coliseum, Wed. – Sat. 2/13 – 2/16.  There were 29 schools represented in the tournament this year.  To qualify wrestlers had to place in the top eight in their 16 man bracket at the sectional tournament.  Qualifying for the Gators were Ethan Frye at 106 lbs.  (placing 4th), Grayson Smith at 120lbs.  (placing 8th), Reese Poole at 126 lbs. (placing 1st), Dustin Varnadore at 132 lbs. (placing 7th), Mosies Butler at 138 lbs. (placing 4th), Kooper Thomas at 145 lbs. (placing 1st), Cannon White at 152 lbs. (placing 3rd), Conner White at 160 lbs. (placing 2nd), Nick Felton at 170 lbs. (placing 7th), Jesus Hernandez at 182 lbs. (placing 5th), Zay Taylor at 220 lbs. (placing 3rd), and Israel Smalls at 285 lbs.
