The Ware Co. Gator Wrestling team won their 3rd straight Region 2 AAAAA traditional championship
on Saturday boasting five champions, three 2nd place finishes, four 3rd place finishes,
and two 4th place finishes, qualifying all 14 wrestlers for the sectional tournament next Saturday
to be held at Loganville HS.  The Gator champions include Ethan Frye (106 lbs.), Reese Poole (126 lbs.),
Mosies Butler (138 lbs.), Kooper Thomas (145 lbs.), and Conner White (160 lbs.).  
Region 2 AAAAA competition included all five region teams with Wayne Co. competing in wrestling
for the first time. The top 4 wrestlers in each weight class move on to sectionals, which is a state
qualifying tournament.  Wrestlers who place in the top 8 will move on to the GHSA traditional state
championship which will be held at the Macon Coliseum on Feb. 13 – 16.
GHSA will be hosting its first all-girls wrestling state championship this year.  
The Gators will be entering 2 female wrestlers in the completion this year which will begin
at the sectional tournament. Caitlyn Mixon (9th grade) will be representing the Gators at the 144 lb. weight class
and Ashleigh Griffis (10th grade) will be representing the Gators at the 116 lb. weight class.  
Tournament winners at the sectionals will qualify for the girls state championship,
which is an all classification event.  Sectional competition will begin on Friday Feb 8th at 4 PM
and continue on Saturday Feb. 9th at 9 AM.
