The Ware County Wrestling team hosted the Region 1-AAAAA Duals championship in the Gator den Saturday, capturing their 5th consecutive region championship and bringing their dual record to 22 – 5 for the season. In round 1, #5 seed Wayne Co. bested #4 seed Warner Robins 54 – 24, and the #2 seed Gators beat #3 seed Coffee 45 – 33, advancing the Gators to the finals. In round 2 Wayne Co. beat #1 seed Veterans 54 – 27 advancing the Yellow Jackets to the finals, and Coffee Co. beat Warner Robins 84 - 0. In round 3 Coffee Co. beat Veterans 62 – 18 to take the 3rd place spot in the tournament and the Gators bested Wayne Co. 60 – 21 to capture the region title. The final region results were 1. Ware, 2. Wayne, 3. Coffee, 4. Veterans, 5. Warner Robins. The top 4 teams in the region advance to state quads next weekend. The Gators will host their state quad in the Gator Den on Saturday 1/23/21, as the region champion in each of the 8 regions will host their state quad. The quad will host 3 teams from other regions and the winner of the quad will advance to the GHSA AAAAA state championship on Saturday 1/30/21, which will be hosted by Locust Grove High School. Start times and details for the state quad will be announced by Tuesday 1/19/21.
