The Ware County Wrestling teams competed at their sectional tournaments this past weekend.  The Lady Gators wrestled 7 weight classes on Friday at Habersham Central High School.  Qualifying for the State Finals were seniors Delaney James at the 140 lb. weight class and Samantha Savinon-Rios at the 135 weight class.  The Gators wrestled on Saturday at Harris county High School and had all 14 weight classes represented in the tournament.  The Gators qualified 10 of the 14 including Jordan Maxwell (So.) at 113 lbs., Da’Marion Zanders (So.) at 120 lbs., Rodrigo Reyes (Fr.) at 126 lbs., Kaden Drury (Fr.) at 144 lbs., Zy Ramsey (Sr.) at 150 lbs., Gunter Fore (Fr.) at 157 lbs., Cameron Hambrick (So.) at 165 lbs., Wyatt Deal (Sr.) at 175 lbs., Noah Lucas (Sr.) at 190 lbs. and Jabare George (Sr.) at 285 lbs.  The state tournament will begin on Thursday 2/15/24 at the Macon Coliseum.

The Lady Gators competed in the Area 2 traditional championship Friday hosted by Tift Co. HS.  The Lady Gators had a great showing in the field that had 38 teams represented, placing 2^nd behind Tift Co. overall as a team.  7 of the 10 lady gators placed in the top 4 which qualified them for sectionals next weekend.  Placing for the Lady Gators were Nadya Ellis (110 lbs) 3^rd place, Samantha Savinon-Rios (135 lbs) 3^rd place, Delaney James (140 lbs) 2^nd place, Cambria McLaughlin (155 lbs) 4^th place, Kira Brown (170 lbs) Champion, Destiny Allgood (190 lbs) 4^th place, Shadalia Allgood (235 lbs) 2^nd place.  Also Competing for the Lady Gators were Emalee Hendrix (115 lbs.) 6^th place, Madison Hanchey (105 lbs.) 6^th place, and Emmelee Haddock (120 lbs.) 6^th place.

 

The Gators competed in the Region 1 5A championship hosted by Coffee Co. HS on Saturday and placed 2^nd as a team behind Coffee Co.  The Gators qualified all 14 weight classes for sectionals next weekend.  Placing for the Gators were Steve Valdez (106 lbs) 3^rd place, Jordan Maxwell (113 lbs) 2^nd place, DaMarion Zanders (120 lbs) 3^rd place, Rodrigo Reyes (126 lbs) 2^nd place, Evan Thomas (132 lbs) 4^th place, Jaden McKelvin (138 lbs) Champion, Kaden Drury (144 lbs) 3^rd place, Zy Ramsey (150 lbs) 2^nd place, Gunter Fore (157 lbs) 2^nd place, Cameron Hambrick (165 lbs) Champion, Wyatt Deal (175 lbs) Champion, Noah Lucas (190 lbs) 2^nd place, Jalen Hampton (215 lbs) 4^th place, Jabare George (285 lbs) Champion.
