The Gator Wrestling team claimed their 4th consecutive Region Duals Championship Saturday bringing their dual record for the season to 43 – 7 as they qualify for the GHSA AAAAA State Duals Championship to be held at the Macon Coliseum next week. The Gators entered the tournament as the first seed and received a bye in the first round. In round 1 New Hampstead (5 seed) wrestled Wayne Co, (4 seed) losing to Wayne Co. 48 – 36, and Statesboro (3 seed) faced South Effingham (2 seed) losing 38 – 28. In Round 2, The Gators faced Wayne Co. Winning the Dual 84 – 0 and winning all 14 matches by fall. New Hampstead faced Statesboro in round 2 as well and the Blue Devils beat New Hampstead 51 – 28 eliminating New Hampstead from the tournament. Round 3 (Championship round) paired The Gators with the Mustangs for the region title and paired Statesboro with Wayne in the conso finals. The Gators claimed their title beating the Mustangs 44 – 27 in the championship and Statesboro beat Wayne 54 – 27 for 3rd place. Ware Co. and South Effingham qualified for the GHSA AAAAA State Duals championship next Thursday – Saturday (1/16/20 – 1/18/20) at the Macon coliseum.
