The Gator wrestling team increased their dual meet record to 20 – 2, going 8 – 1 for the tournament and finishing 2nd in the 7th annual Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Jeff-Davis high school. There were 21 teams competing in the tournament this year which were broken up into three pools of 7 teams. Pool A included Ware Co., Dodge Co., Jeff-Davis (2), Toombs Co., West Laurens (2), Telfair Co., and Cook Co. Pool B included East Laurens, Coffee Co. (2), Treutlen, Appling Co., Jeff-Davis, Brantley Co., and Vidalia. Pool C included West Laurens, Toombs Co. (2), Fitzgerald, Coffee Co., Irwin Co., Montgomery, and Glynn Academy. The Gators went 5 – 0 on Friday defeating Toombs Co. 35 -32, defeating Cook Co. 55 – 21, defeating Dodge Co. 72 – 3, defeating Telfair Co. 66 – 18, and defeating Jeff-Davis (2) 74 – 6. On Saturday the Gators went 3 – 1 defeating West Laurens (2) 78 – 6 in the final round of pool competition and sweeping their pool 6 - 0. In the crossover rounds the Gators first went up against East Laurens (6 – 0 in their pool) and defeated them 51 – 30. In the second round of crossover competition the Gators matched up against West Laurens (6 – 0 in their pool) and defeated them 39 – 37 with a nail-biting overtime win by Dalton Purvis (152) in the final match of the dual. The Gators matched up once again with Toombs Co. in the finals and lost their first dual of the tournament 33 – 42.
The Gators next competition will be at home on Tuesday Dec. 10th vs. Glynn Academy and Brantley Co.
