Gators take 12th in the state traditional tournament

The Ware county wrestling team took nine athletes to the state traditional tournament this past weekend at the Gwinnett Arena in Atlanta.  Those competing this past weekend were John Williams (113), Taylor Bristow (132), KP Boatright (138 – made it in as an alternate, placed 9^th in Sectional), Isaac King (145), Shawn Tinnyhill (152), David Shavers (170), Charles Johnson (182), Anthony Rolle (195), and MJ Young (285).  The Gators placed 12^th overall in the state and had three state placers:  Shawn Tinnyhill placed 6^th, David Shavers placed 4^th, and Charles Johnson placed 5^th. 
The Gators have certainly moved up in the field placing in the top 12 as a team.

Eight qualify for State at the Sectional Traditional Tournament!

The Ware Co. Gator Wrestling team qualified 8 for the traditional state tournament out of the 11 individuals that competed in the sectional tournament held at Loganville HS this past Friday and Saturday.  To qualify for the traditional state tournament you have to place top 8 in the sectional tournament.  There are 2 sections, east and west.  Those that qualify for state are among the top 16 (sweet 16) in their weight class in the state of GA and will vie for an individual state championship next weekend (Thursday – Saturday) at the Gwinnett arena in Atlanta.  The complete schedule is posted on www.ghas.net

Gladiator Duals 1/28/12

The Gator wrestling team ended their regular dual season with a record of 38 – 5 after placing second in the Gladiator duals held at Clarke Central HS on Saturday 1/28/12.  The Gators went 3 – 1 defeating Westside HS (57 – 18), Winder HS (64 – 15), and Oconee HS (34 – 29), and falling to Clarke Central HS (41 – 25).   The Gators are set to take on the competition at the area 2 AAAA traditional tournament to be held at South Effingham HS on Saturday 2/4/12.  Wrestling will begin at 9:00am.

Senior Night WCHS vs Charlton, Richmond Hill 1/24/2012

It was Senior Night Tuesday 1/24/12 in the Swamp as the Gators increased their record to 35 – 4 on the season.  The Gator Grapplers bested Richmond Hill 44 – 33 and clobbered Charlton Co. 56 – 9.  The seniors honored last night were Austin Delk, Jeremy Barber, Corey Mooneyhan, MJ Young, Zhyloyn Smith, Charles Johnson, Jared Gillis, Taylor Bristow, and Shawn Tinnyhill.  These seniors have dedicated much time and given great effort in making the wrestling program here at WCHS a success and they will be greatly missed next season. 

The Gators varsity team will be travelling to Clarke Central to wrestling in the Gladiator Duels on Saturday while the JV team heads to Camden county. 

This will be the last competition before the team heads to the Region 2 AAAA traditional tourney in South Effingham on Feb. 4^th.

The Gators increased their Dual meet record to 33 – 4 after going 2 – 1 at Camden this past weekend.  The Gators first matched up with Camden B defeating them 53 – 18.  Forfeiting 3 weight classes, the Gator Grapplers dropped one against the AAAAA State Champions losing 55 – 9.  The Gators bounced back against Sandlewood of Jacksonville.  The Gator JV wrestled at the Brantley Bash this past weekend placing 2^nd overall.  Senior night will be Tuesday 1/24/12 vs. Charlton and Richmond Hill.  Wrestling will begin at 5pm.  Individual match results are listed below:

2012 State Dual Wrestling Championship

The Gators headed to Macon GA last Thursday to participate in the 2012 State wrestling dual tournament held in the Macon Centreplex.  The 2X region 2 AAAA champions ended with a 6^th place finish in the tournament out of the 16 teams that competed.  Ware Co. had a few speed bumps going onto the tournament as 2 of the 14 varsity wrestlers who wrestled in the Region tournament had to stay home due to illness.  Going into the consolation quarterfinals vs. Alexander the Gators lost 132 pounder, Taylor Bristow, to a head injury.  Going into the consolation semifinals vs. Loganville the Gators were down their starting varsity 138 pounder Austin Delk to a dislocated shoulder.  Overall, the Gators went 3 – 3 to a true 6^th place finish overall.  Full brackets can be seen on www.ghsa.net   Individual meet and match results are listed below:
